  • Basis Flat
  • Live Cattle 148 higher (248.10)
  • Lean Hogs 33 lower (94.70)
  • Dow Jones 115 higher (52,122)
  • Crude Oil 245 lower (73.43)

A slow and lower trade is unfolding to start the week as crude oil is sharply lower and dragging the bio-fuel markets lower with it. The weekend saw progress and continued negotiations with Iran on permanently re-opening the Straits with the US also approving a plan for the immediate sale of Iranian oil that has been stuck on tankers in the Persian Gulf for months. With falling energy prices and a better flow of fertilizer and other products through the Straits, the general inflation trade continues to be unwound by the funds. Weekend Corn Belt rains and the forecasts for more heading into late month are also adding some pressure to today’s trade. Chinese trade actions will be closely watched as a demand story needs to emerge to offset the bearish energy markets and the lack of US weather concern.

This will be today’s only comment, but the market moving forces into the June 30th acreage report continue to be good US weather, falling energy prices and the hope of Chinese trade.
